Patient access section
Welcome to the patient access section of Prima Biomed's CVac Clinical Ovarian Cancer Vaccine Trial CAN-003.
Firstly, thank you for your interest in Prima Biomed's clinical trial of CVac™, an experimental vaccine treatment which may prevent recurrence of ovarian cancer in patients who have had a disease remission by chemotherapy. If you are a patient recently in remission after chemotherapy, this trial outline may be helpful for you.
CVac™
CVac™ cell therapy is an investigational cutting edge vaccine therapy for the treatment of cancer. The vaccine therapy uses special cells called dendritic cells, taken from the cancer patient's blood in a process called leukapheresis (blood is circulated through a special filter that takes out only the cells needed for the vaccine), and activated in the laboratory with protein present in great amounts in the tumors cells. The cells are allowed to multiply in the laboratory and are then prepared for the physician or nurse to inject into the surface of the skin in 6 to 8 places. Once in the skin these cells are believed to cause the production of the patients own immune cells that are now programmed to attack and destroy the cancer cells.
Clinical Study CAN-003
This clinical study is designed to help your oncologist, Health Authorities, and Prima Biomed understand how effective the vaccine therapy may be to patients who have had ovarian cancer and are in remission. In some cases, even though the disease is in remission, there is still a possibility that some cells have been left behind that could begin to grow again, causing the tumor to reappear. CVac™ alerts the body's immune system to look out for these cells, and to target them for destruction. The vaccine may then prevent the disease from recurring. This study is designed to look at how long, if ever, it takes for any cancer cells that may still be in the body to start growing again. The study lasts approximately 2 years for each patient.
